Some big name stars go head-to-head at Kenilworth Wardens’ Glasshouse Park home next week, as Knowle & Dorridge and Berkswell attempt to claim the third Carrick Travel Floodlit T20 Cup.

The two Birmingham & District Premier League high-flyers once again join 2012 winners Leamington and the hosts in what has become one of the most eagerly-awaited competitions on the Midlands’ cricket calendar.

K&D skipper Dave Smith’s team were beaten by Wardens in last year’s final, and he believes their hopes of going one better this time are significantly boosted by the presence of Aussie Big Bash star Michael Hill at the top of the order.

He said: “Michael will be with us for the first two days before he flies home to join his new state side Tasmania. The Carrick Travel Cup is a competition we have really enjoyed over the last two years, and having won the Birmingham League T20 Knock Out last week, the lads are well up for trying to take the title this year.”

Meanwhile, Berkswell, who are aiming at a Birmingham Premier League and Carrick Travel Cup double, have also strengthened their T20 credentials with the recruitment of former England all-rounder Darren Maddy. The former Warwickshire skipper boosts a side which already contains ex-Bears Dominic Ostler and Nick James.

Club spokesman James Neale commented: “We are going well in the league on a Saturday, and hope we can carry that form into the floodlit cup. Darren should be available for at least some of the week, and we hope we can put our names on the cup for a first time.”

Matches start at 5.30pm and 7.50pm each evening from Monday, with the final taking place on Thursday. The BBQ and bar are available each evening, as is a car valeting service for those wanting to multi-task! Entry is £5 per car or £2 for those on foot, including a programme.

Regular score updates will be available each evening on Twitter feed @kwardens, while post-match interviews will be found on You Tube, with daily reports and pictures being posted to http://www.kenilworthwardens.play-cricket.com/
