Knowle and Dorridge Cricket Club
Launch Junior Girls Cricket Programme 2017

The 2017 season will see Knowle & Dorridge Cricket Club launch its flagship Junior Girls Cricket Programme. This 10 week programme, beginning in April 2017, has been specifically designed for girls between 5-13 years of age. The club will be entering its first ever girls cricket team in the Warwickshire Cricket Board under 11’s league.

Female cricket has become very popular in recent years and Sport England has launched the ‘This Girl Can’ national campaign, which is a celebration of active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or how sweaty they get.

David Smith, Knowle and Dorridge Cricket Chairman explained, “This is a really exciting initiative for the Club and I am really looking to it running. We have managed to secure Warwickshire Ladies star, Amy Weir, to lead our girls programme as well other excellent coaches. We have been doing excellent work with local schools including Arden Academy over winter and we will be running our first girls cricket team in 2017.

“Girls and Women’s cricket is an area we want to grow over the next 5 years with the long term plan to have girls’ teams at U11’s, U13’s, U15’s and U17’s and a Knowle & Dorridge ladies team.”

The sessions are designed to be fun and allow girls to try a new sport with friends in a relaxed environment. Female coaches are involved and the club’s newly refurbished Station Road Pavilion will be open to parents and family.
