“Convincing 1st round victory in the Royal London Cup”

On a glorious day on Sunday the 1st XI began their Royal London Club Championship campaign away at Barnt Green. Skipper Sam Reddish won the toss and decided to bowl first, which suited the strength of the side that day, knowing the strength in depth of our batting line up.
Henry Brookes and Sam Reddish opened the bowling and along with Chris Kenny and Tom Smith, kept Barnt Green fairly restricted in the power play overs. This competitions rules only allow 2 fielders outside of the 30 yard circle for the first 15 overs of the game and is therefore a very important phase of each teams innings. After picking up regular wickets through the 45 overs, we managed to restrict Barnt Green to 190-6 with the wickets shared about between the bowlers.

In response, Alex Phillips opened the batting with Henry Brookes, to try and take advantage of the initial 15 over powerplay. This we achieved with devastating effect, as we chased the total down in just 23 overs with the loss of only 1 wicket. Alex finished unbeaten on 70 and Henry Brookes scored his maiden 1st XI hundred, from only 59 balls. He utilised the short boundary effortlessly and brought up his hundred with a clinical six over mid wicket.

It was a faultless performance and provides a great platform for the side to take into the first league game of the year this Saturday, away at West Bromwich Dartmouth CC.

The 1st XI play the 2nd round away at Ockbrook & Borrowash CC from the Derbyshire League, on Sunday the 14th May.
